It is on record that Iwere Land is the major host to all of Chevron’s oil exploration. This is evident from the fact that Chevron Nigeria Limited drills approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil from our land. The Itsekiri Nation produces over 80% of Chevron’s crude in Nigeria. We are the reason Chevron is a major oil multinational in Nigeria, but with little or nothing to show for it. A quick arithmetic will show that the 400,000 barrels of crude per day at approximately $50 per barrel today will give you $20,000,000 per day. This means that the Itsekiri Nation gives Chevron $20,000,000 daily.

At this rate, Chevron would have sold crude of over $7 trillion at the end of this year.
Before last year Crude oil price was at an average of $100 per barrel for about 4 years.
A quick arithmetic will show that at an average of 400,000 barrels per day, Chevron was making $40,000,000 daily from Iwere land.

During this period Chevron sold crude oil from Iwere Land at an average of $14 trillion per annum.
None of our communities has any health facility built by Chevron; from Ugbege, to Ekekporo, From Bateren to TISUN, From Ugborodo to Omadino the story is the same. There is no portable drinking water, no infrastructure. Compare that with Bonny, & Brass where you have a world class health facility, International Standard Schools, Banks, Five star hotels yet they don’t produce up to our oil quantum.

The Itsekiri Nation gives Shell, NPDC, & others over 300,000 barrels of crude per day but with nothing to show for it. That is about $6 trillion per annum at the current global price of crude oil.

Why is our land desolate, & that of our neighbours different? Is it because our leaders are evil or because Chevron and other multinationals have taken our hospitality for granted is it is due to both factors?
We cannot continue to keep quiet when our pregnant women don’t have access to health facilities, and infants mortality rate has become higher than WHO acceptable standard.

Our children in the riverine communities where these oil majors operate don’t have access to clean water to drink, no education, & no electricity, while in our neighbours communities these multinationals supply them electricity from their turbines.

Ugborodo my beloved homeland plays host to both the Chevron Tank farm, Chevron EGTL gas plant ( the largest in africa), & NNPC tank farm yet no light, No health care facilities, no housing units, & no banks.

These oil operations are accompanied with severe environmental pollution.
The Itsekiri Nation has never had a “struggle” but this is a course worth dying for.
Today, I am challenging all Itsekiri leaders both home and abroad, our human rights activists, economic technocrats, & our social media activist to wake up from their deep sleep and occupy Chevron through both print and electronic media, mass media, through phone calls, protest, petitions, court injunctions, etc.

Let us wake uo to let Chevron homeland in Houston Texas know the evil they are doing here. Let us wake up to let the American government know we can’t take this any longer.

Enough is Enough!!!!!
