We wish to draw your immediate attention to the open act of war declared on the peace loving people of Ugborodo community by the Ijaw customary tenants of Gbaramatu in Warri South West local government of Delta State Tuesday 7/2/2017, when their leader, William Oboro parading himself as a Pere (king) of Gbaramatu with strong official backing from certain persons in the Delta State government Asaba, came with armed militants and stormed IKPOKPO, an ITSEKIRI community in Ugborodo community under the over lordship of the Olu of Warri, His majesry, Ogiame Ikenwoli.
This brazen, foolish and broad daylight provocative incursion of the Ijaw customary tenants into the very heart of an Itsekiri HOMELAND is coming at a time when the Federal government through Vice President Yemi Osibanjo who came a about a fortnight ago, is making frantic efforts to create an atmosphere of peace in the Niger Delta region so that peace can return to the troubled region to enable meaningful development and investments needed for the much desired job creation opportunities to curb the massive youth unemployment among the jobless Nigerian citizens to take place.
Your Excellency, KPOKPO a community under Ugborodo community, is an Itsekiri community just like Ijaghala and several other communities with close proximity to where the Ijaws are settling that was attacked in 1997 by Ijaw militants who set the place ablaze after killing over thirty (30) indigenes of the place in cold blood.
Since that infamous attack started almost two decades ago, the Ijaws of Gbaramatu who are customary tenants of Itsekiri of Omadino and Ugborodo communities under the over lordship of the Olu of Warri have been so emboldened by successive governments in Delta state who have not only encouraged the lawlessness and killing of our people, but has illegally created a kingdom within Warri kingdom for the Ijaws and have used government power to give the customary tenants staff of office to further encourage the Ijaws in their expansionist quest in the Niger Delta region as captured in their Kaima declaration article some years ago.
The Ijaws of Gbaramatu who are specialists in sea piracy, oil bunkering, kidnapping, hijacking of oil vessels and tankers for ransom, killing of security agents, forceful annexation and occupation of other ethnic groups lands, killing of innocent Itsekiri citizens and burning of communities has gained more ground unfortunately under the Jonathan administration with clear mandate to fulfil the Ijaw agenda in Niger Delta and Nigeria as a country.
We wish to state that the two major projects brought to forcefully annex Itsekiri homelands of Omadino and Ugborodo under the authority of the Olu of Warri which are the controversial Maritime university and Gbaramatu deep sea port were both brought by their Ijaw son with ulterior motives to steal and gradually occupy our communities which they have burnt and changed all their names to Ijaws names. This illegality was very quick and easy to achieve because Jonathan freely opened the National treasury through NIMASA and Ministry of Petroleum resources headed by two Ijaw son and daughter, Patrick Akpobolokeme and Deziani Allison Madukwe. The whooping sum of 12 billion naira single handedly paid into Tompolo account for a land that was NEVER IJAW LAND, is a clear testament to how they used government money under Jonathan to occupy our land forcefully. Part of this looted fund was what Tompolo and his militant gangs used in buying several known and unknown war ships and gun boats with which the Ijaws have planned to use to unleash mayhem and terror on the Itsekiri people and the Niger Delta region until God in His own wisdom stopped Jonathan from becoming president again in 2015. The display of various weapons of mass destruction by the Niger Delta Avenger a group that sprang up immediately Tompolo was declared wanted by the EFCC around February last year, prove to the world what the Ijaw were upto had their son won the election again.
Your excellency, since ex president Jonathan illegally used his power officially to move both projects from Koko an Itsekiri town in Warri North local government of Delta state to areas where his kinsmen can use crude force and intimidation to lay false claims to our lands, that the Ijaws of Gbaramatu has done everything possible to provoke us to a fight. It must be recalled that just as Jonathan rushed down to perform the ground breaking ceremony of the Ijaw maritime university without seeking the audience of the Itsekiri people and the Olu of Warri, so did Jonathan deliberately frustrated and delayed the ground breaking ceremony of the EPZ project Ogidigben until he connived with his militant brothers to wickedly and illegally created another illegal attachment GBARAMATU DEEP SEA PORT which the Itsekiri people rejected but Jonathan forced on us two days to the expuration of his term in office in 2015. This is where we are today.
The Ijaws are in the senate without any legal claim to the maritime university land of Okerenghigho which they changed criminally to Okerenkoko. That issue is still on and everyone is waiting for justice and rule of law to be followed and justice done in favor of the true owners of the land Omadino and now the Ijaw has the effrontery to carry canopies and drums to KPOKPO in broad daylight with arms under the watchful eyes of NAVAL officers stationed there by the federal government. The armed Navy boat that harass innocent boat passengers by asking them to always raise their hands up did not stop the Ijaw militants and their leader from coming into such a place where the Okoturoh brothers chased the Ijaws away in 2015 when they came to encroach on the land.
Your excellency, the peaceful nature of the Itsekiri people in Niger Delta and Nigeria has been greatly misconstrued as weakness. The Itsekiri people who contribute over 35 percent of the nation oil resources has been treated unjustly by both federal government and Delta state government on whose supports and active backing and failure to provide adequate security for our people and follow the rule of law, the Ijaws have rode to commit so much illegality against our people.
The Ijaw agenda in the Niger Delta and their expansionist tendencies has seen them clash with Ilajes in Ondo state, Ikweres in River state, the Binis in Edo state, the Ibibio in Akwa Ibom state, the Calabars in Cross river state, the Yorubas in Alepo in Ogun state, the Yorubas in Lagos state, Urohbohs in Aladja, Urohbos in Gbaragolo and other places too numerous to mention where their ancestors where formerly accommodated by their hosts.
The Itsekiri people have never gone outside of its territory in Warri kingdom to forcefully lay claim to lands that does not belong to them. If for any reason a court of competent jurisdiction gives a judgement against the Itsekiri people, we have always obeyed and respect the rule of law in such places. The Ijaws cannot lay false claims to lands they are currently staying and then have the audacity to walk freely into KPOKPO to want to exact authority they never possessed from the beginning.
Your excellency, should the Ijaw attempt visiting KPOKPO again, we shall be left with no option than to unleash calamity on them.
WE WON’T ALLOW THEM TO ENTER MANDAGHO FIRST BEFORE WE KNOW THEY HAVE BROUGHT WAR ON OUR PEOPLE.
THE MONOPOLY OF VIOLENCE IS NOT FOR THE IJAWS ALONE.
